Wow, it’s been a whole year since I started this freelance copywriting journey full-time. I’ve learnt a few things along the way, that’s for sure. I’ve been writing since I was very young and got into blogging as a career when I was 18. I worked through my university years and used what I learnt in the lecture hall to improve my own creative writing skills. Since then, I’ve learnt a lot about the industry and how to craft compelling and engaging content for my clients.

The year flew by but the first few months were the hardest. I wasn’t a businesswoman, that was clear from the start. I didn’t like the thought of sitting in a meeting with a bunch of professionals and pitching myself to them, so that was out of the question. I needed a different way to attract new clients and keep up with the rent payments. So, I turned to my social media accounts and used my connections to find work. LinkedIn became my new best friend (Here’s a great post about Job Networking through social media that has some great tips) The platform allowed me to meet new people with similar interests and learn from them. It really got me going and it’s where I landed my first client.

After that, things really took off and I could barely keep up with the workload. I created spreadsheets for everything. A spreadsheet for my weekly blogging schedule, a spreadsheet for finances and a spreadsheet for things I needed to do when I had some free time. It helps me to keep on track of things so I never miss a deadline.

I’m really happy that The Content Assassin has done so well for me. The first year wasn’t easy, but all the hard work paid off and it was all worth it. I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store! Maybe someday I’ll be back working in an office, but for right now, I’m happy working from home and keeping busy!
